A Celebration of Life for Marilyn Marie (Jacobs) May will be held 10:00 AM, Saturday, October 12,2013 at the Peacock Family Chapel with Ian Blacker of the Lamar Christian Church officiating.  Interment will be in the Veteran’s Section of Fairmount Cemetery in Lamar.

Per Mrs. May’s request, cremation has taken place and there was no public viewing.

Marilyn Marie May was born on July 3, 1930 in Beaver, OK to Dudley and Alta (Dinger) Jacobs.  Marilyn passed away on August 25, 2013, at the age of 83 in Phoenix, Arizona.  Marilyn lived with her parents in Lamar until she married William (Billy) Lavern May of Lamar.  She had a wonderful childhood, growing up the second born of four children that included Sister Phyllis and two Brothers, Jimmy and Donald Joe.  They were, and still are, a close knit family, and she fondly recalled traveling to Liberal, KS to see them while she was living in Lamar.  She was valedictorian at Lamar High School.

Marilyn married William (Billy) May, had two children, Rick and Shelly, and lived in Lamar periodically for numerous years while also traveling to support William’s profession as thoroughbred race horse owner and trainer.  Marilyn and William raced thoroughbred horses throughout the country, including Denver, Omaha, Phoenix, Hot Springs, El Paso, Chicago, Detroit and parts of California, New Mexico, and Maryland.

Marilyn built a life supporting her husband’s horse racing profession, working in accounting for various firms, and taking care of her children and family.  Home cooked meals were also one of her best attributes, and she made certain that her family and guests were always fed very well.  Her and Bill made their home in Phoenix, AZ during the last twenty years or so, with three of those years (2006-2009) living in a home in Paradise, Utah.  The winter weather in Paradise was a little too severe for Marilyn’s liking, so they moved back to Phoenix in 2009.

Marilyn departed this life on August 25, 2013 with family by her side, and with powerful expressions of thankfulness, love, affirmation, and hope spoken.   She will be fondly remembered as a family matriarch who poured out her life to her husband, children, and friends.   She is survived by her husband William May, daughter Shelly (John) Jackson, son Rick (Kim) May, sister Phyllis (Dwight) Eaton, brother Donald Joe (Roxie) Jacobs, grandchildren Ricky May, Ryan Hernandez, Brandon Boydston, Jamie Gunter, and Kari Bess.  She is also survived by her great-grandchildren Chase May, Hailey May, Madison Boydston, Lauren May, Wyatt Bess, Breyden Boydston, Alyssa Boydston, and Gracie Izatt and many nieces and nephews.   She is preceded in death by her parents Dudley and Alta Jacobs, brother Jimmy Jacobs, brother-in-law Dwight Eaton, nephew Gary Eaton, and great-grandson Sam May.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society direct or  through the funeral home at 209 South 4th St., Lamar, CO 81052.
