Thanks to All for Help in Tri-State Tribute

Post Office 2

On behalf of the Annual Tri-State Tribute Committee we wish to thank Lamar and the surrounding communities for such outstanding support of our event on Saturday, September 14th! Our corporate sponsors: Tri County Ford and Lincoln of Lamar, Tri County GM of La Junta, 4-States Feedlot, and Heath and Turpin, Inc., along with funds from the Prowers County Lodging Tax Revenue and donations from many other sponsors brought this initial dream of honoring our heroes to reality.

The Lamar Chamber of Commerce, Lamar Police Department, Prowers County Commissioners, Recreation Department, Fair Board, Sheriff’s Posse, and County Maintenance Department all walked an extra mile to make this so successful.

From the Parade to the BBQ and onto the formal Tribute ceremony, so many individuals, businesses, and school children contributed to recognizing the commitment, dedication and sacrifice made by our 1st Responders, Dispatchers, Military, and their Families.

We would also like to thank all the vets who rode on the floats and participated throughout the day!

It is with great honor that we were able to announce, in conjunction with Lamar Community College, a baseball scholarship in the name of the Fallen Firefighter Wade Parker. This young man lost his life as one of the nineteen Granite Mountain Hotshots, an elite 20-member wildland firefighting crew, when the wind shifted on that Arizona ridge. Just a couple of years before this tragedy he was playing ball for LCC’s Runnin’ Lopes. Anyone wishing to contribute to his memorial scholarship fund may contact Anne-Marie Crampton, Director, Institutional Advancement, Lamar Community College, Betz #116, 719.336.1520, www.lamarcc.edu
