Site Search Continues for VA Clinic

The Veteran’s Administration will continue to advertise for bids for a site for a new clinic to serve Lamar and Prowers County. The Prowers County Commissioners had offered a portion of the County Annex on East Cedar Street as a location, but although almost all the criteria were met for the VA’s needs, the Annex was not completely suitable for a contract.
Jeremy Miller, County VA representative said the county has bowed out of being a host site and the VA intends to rebid for office and clinic space. The last advertisements did not elicit any response from property owners. In general, between 1200 to 1500 square feet of space is required for the clinic and the VA will have additional specifics on their requirements.
The current contract for the clinic at Prowers Medical Center will expire on August 31. Miller said plans for a mobile clinic have been developed to serve the medical needs of area veterans until a more permanent location has been established. Additional information on that clinic will be forthcoming later this month.
