OJC and LCC Partner to Meet Area Business Needs

(Lamar, Colorado; August 27, 2013) Lamar Community College and Otero Junior College are partnering to provide services to Southeastern Colorado’s businesses, farms and ranches. OJC will be expanding its Agri-Business Management program into LCC’s service area, while LCC will take on the Small Business Management program in OJC’s service area. Providing services on a regional level allows for pooling of resources to meet the needs of more students.
Students in the Small Business Management program will be enrolled as LCC students even if they live in the OJC service area, however, they will not be required to travel to Lamar. Students will complete online registration, meet with the instructor at their place of business and complete required classroom time online via webinars that they can complete at a convenient time.
The same format will work for Agri-Business Management students in the LCC service area. They will be enrolled as OJC students, but online registration and on-site learning will negate the need for travel to La Junta.
“Over the past years Otero Junior College and Lamar Community College have collaborated in the offering of programs throughout southeast Colorado,” said Jim Rizzuto, president of OJC. “Otero Junior College is excited about this latest partnership with Lamar Community College. Working together ensures that each school will be able to meet the collective needs of the residents and students of southeast Colorado. I sincerely feel this is a model for future partnerships between the two schools.
“This is a great way for the two colleges to collaborate in helping improve the economy in our districts,” stated John Marrin, president of LCC. “Sharing resources in the areas of Small Business Management and Agriculture Management will positively impact our students and region.”
