The Colorado State Patrol is currently investigating a fatal traffic crash that occurred on August 28, 2013 at approximately 6:00 AM. The crash occurred on Colorado Highway 50 approximately 8 miles east of Hasty, Colorado in Bent County.

A 1996 Acura Sedan driven by a 23-year-old female from Colorado Springs, was traveling westbound on Highway 50 when the Acura ran off the right (north) side of the road. The Acura travelled through a barbed wire fence then rolled and came to rest on its wheels facing northeast. The driver and a young female child were ejected from the vehicle. A second young child (boy) was secured in a child restraint seat and remained in the vehicle.

Both the driver and the child that was ejected were pronounced dead at the scene. The child that was restrained was transported to Prowers Medical Center in Lamar where it was determined he was uninjured.

The driver was not wearing a seat belt and the child that was ejected was not properly restrained in the vehicle at the time of the crash.  The names of the driver and passengers is being withheld until next-of kin have been notified.

At this time it is unknown if alcohol/drugs or speed is a contributing factor in the crash. The crash is still under investigation.
