Medrith E. Horber…July 23, 1920 – July 23, 2013

Graveside Services for longtime, Las Animas, CO resident, Medrith Horber will be held at 9:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 31, 2013 at the Las Animas Cemetery in Las Animas, CO.  Rev. Diane Hudson will officiate.  Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 30, 2013 at Horber Funeral Chapel in Las Animas.

Medrith E. (Armstrong) Horber was born on July 23, 1920 in Owensville, IN to Chester and Grace (Hartley) Armstrong.  She passed away on July 23, 2013 at her daughter’s home in Medrith was united in marriage to John T. Horber II on June 23, 1944 in Minneapolis, MN.  She obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Music from Bowling Green State University.  Medrith was an ordained minister at the Disciples of Christ Christian Church.  She and her husband both attended Hartford Seminary, receiving training to become missionaries.  They were missionaries in Jamaica from 1955-1958.  John and Medrith traveled as he pastored churches in Fairview, IN; Kingston, Jamaica;  Taylor, TX; Des Moines, IA; Wiley, CO; Aransas Pass, TX; and Chief of Chaplains at Fort Lyon VA Hospital. She shared her passion for music by playing the organ at the churches where her husband officiated as well as teaching music in the Las Animas schools for several years.

Medrith is survived by her sons, John T. Horber III and wife, Janet of Las Animas, CO, Chester Horber and wife Joanne of Aurora, CO; daughter, Barbara Woodruff and husband, Jim of Rocky Ford, CO; son-in-law, Jim Thayer of Las Animas, CO; eight grandchildren; five great grandchildren; many other relatives and a host of friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; an aunt and uncle who raised her; husband, John; daughter, Joy Thayer; and sister, Mary Jean Barrett.
