Friday, May 31
At 8:54 pm on Friday, May 31, Lamar Fire personnel were dispatched to a gasoline or other flammable liquid spill at 1107 South Main Street in Lamar. Upon arrival at the scene, fire personnel found approximately two gallons of gasoline around the #2 pump and a red Ford pickup leaving. The driver of the pickup was contacted and he stated that he had purchased diesel and the fuel spill was present when he arrived. The store clerk noted that the driver responsible for the spill had reported it to her and she reported it, although she did not have information on the driver or the vehicle. Fire personnel contained the spill and returned to service.
Monday, June 3
At 11:24 pm on Monday, June 3, Lamar Fire personnel were dispatched Olive and 13th Streets in Lamar on report of trees on fire. Upon arrival at the open lot, a group of trees surrounded by weeds and grass was found on fire. The fire was extinguished and personnel investigated the area, finding a strong smell of gasoline at the ignition point. Jeremy Groomer, an area resident, stated he had witnessed a black pickup leaving the exact area of ignition at the time flames were noticed. The scene was transferred to Lamar Police for investigation.
