McClave High School graduating senior Dillon Kelley received a $500 scholarship. Kelley will be attending West Texas A & M, majoring in Ag Business/Ag Economics. In the scholarship application essay, Kelley described his passion for sports, and that passion has shown through in his involvement in football, basketball and track at MHS. Kelley was also a leader in FFA, Future Business Leaders of America, NHS, Drama Club, 4-H, and church youth group. One of his references lauded him for his willingness to work toward his goals.
The Daniel Kasza Memorial 4-H Scholarship was awarded to Andi Hetrick of Walsh High School. An eleven-year 4-H member, Hetrick has been a strong role model and mentor for youth in Baca County. Hetrick has exemplified the “Heart” of 4-H as she participated in and led numerous community service projects. She will be attending Colorado State University-Pueblo, majoring in Sociology/Psychology. The 4-H scholarship was open to graduating seniors who were 4-H members in Baca, Bent, Crowley, Cheyenne, Kiowa, Otero and Prowers counties.
The scholarships are given in memory of Daniel Kasza through many generous donations. A McClave High School graduate, Kasza was a student at Ft Lewis College at the time of his death in June 2009. These scholarships are given to the 4-H and McClave communities because of their influence on Kasza.
