Mayor Roger Stagner and PMC Board Chair Candy Ruedeman Sign Proclamation

“Nurses – Delivering Quality & Innovation in Patient Care” is the theme for this year’s observance of National Nurses Week.  May 6 is also officially observed as the beginning of observances to honor the birth of Florence Nightengale, the founder of modern nusing practices.

Mayor Stagner and Candy Candy Ruedeman, R.N. and chairman of the board of Directors at Prowers Medical Center in Lamar, were present at the PMC Medical/Surgical Unit to read the Lamar proclamation at the hospital last week on April 26.

Prowers Medical Center (PMC) will honor their nursing staff during National Nurses Week which begins May 6th and ends on May 12th, Florence Nightingale’s birthday.  The week-long celebration will recognize nurses for “Delivering Quality and Innovation in Patient Care”, the American Nurses Association’s 2013 theme for National Nurses Week.

In 2012, Americans again voted nurses the most trusted profession in America for the 13th time in 14 years in the annual Gallup poll that ranks professions for their honesty and ethical standards. Nurses’ honesty and ethics were rated “very high” or “high” by 85 percent of poll respondents.

PMC nurses are exactly these professionals that America and Prowers County vote for.   Your first encounter with a PMC nurse could happen in our Rural Health Clinic while getting a wellness checkup. Or maybe a new addition to your family is welcomed to the world in the New Beginnings Birth Center by nurses’ proficient with fetal monitors and newborn care.  Should you have an urgent or emergency need, our Emergency Department nurses are specifically certified in trauma and advanced life support.  And behind that surgical mask is a PMC surgery nurse expertly monitoring you during your operation.  PMC medical surgical nurses provide skilled care to all ages of hospitalized patients and when you go home, PMC home health nurses come to your home to share their expertise during recovery periods.

PMC salutes these dedicated professionals who serve our facility and community. Their competence in the art and science of nursing is enhanced by their compassionate attitude while delivering patient centered care.  Thank you nurses!
