Amtrak will join communities across America to celebrate the importance of trains to their town at the sixth annual National Train Day. More than 200 communities are expected to host events at local train stations, railroad museums and other locations commemorating this year’s theme “trains matter.”
Saturday, May 11, Lamar will also celebrate the importance of trains in the community as Mayor Pro-Tem, Skip Ruedeman, our local train enthusiast, will be on-site at the Lamar Amtrak Station located in the 1907 Historic Depot to speak more about why trains matter to our community.
This free event, which will take place from 11am-1pm, provides the community a chance to tour the beautiful historic depot, the 1819 Steam Engine with antique windmill and water tank, view historic photos and visit with local train enthusiasts. Free refreshments will be served and lots of family friendly goodies! Celebrate National Train Day in Lamar! For more information, please call 336-3483.
In La Junta, Colo. at 10 a.m., Mayor Don Rizzuto will support the Amtrak observance by officially opening National Train Day with special remarks and displays at the La Junta Amtrak Station.
