The Lamar ladies of the Kappa Master Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi sorority enjoyed an interesting and informative program about the HOPE teen center given by Lori Hammer, after a delicious luncheon at the Rodeway Cow Palace Inn in early April. The HOPE Center located at 210 N. 10th, stands for Health Opportunity Prevention and Education. The center serves over 100 students ages 3rd grade through high school daily, after school. The Hope center employees help local children with their school work as well as teaching them useful life skills in order to enhance their lives.
After their luncheon and presentation from Lori Hammer, The Kappa Master ladies then donated $500 to the HOPE center to assist with expenses in the upcoming months. This local Kappa Master chapter raises their yearly funds by selling fresh pecans from Georgia in November and December. In addition to the financial support given to the HOPE center, this year the sorority has given to the local homeless shelter, Hospice, an outstanding senior year student at LHS, and provided cookies for a summer baseball tournament. If you are interested in learning more about the opportunity to participate in this elemosynary sorority or would like to purchase delicious pecans from Georgia, please contact any of the Kappa Master Ladies mentioned above.
