Growing Season Underway Along Main Street

Just in time for the growing season, the planters along Main Street in Lamar are being set with new plants for a new season. According to Shawna Hodge, Lamar’s Main Street Director, the flowers and plants were purchased from $2,000 worth of donations from the Home Store, Formally Guihen’s Lumber and Landscapes in Lamar.
A May 1st radiothon broadcast at KLMR helped raise most of the money and residents and volunteers from the County Dudes and Dames 4-H Club provided the hands-in-dirt work, getting them set in planters along North and Main Streets in time for Lamar Days festivities.
Even though the city is at Stage 2 water restrictions, it shouldn’t take a lot to keep the plants growing. Hodge said business owners are asked to help out and water the plants at least once a week. Hodge added that Lamar Chamber of Commerce directors and board member of Lamar Partnership, Inc., would also volunteer their time in the watering chores.
