AT 10:38 pm on Tuesday, May 14, fire personnel were dispatched to 408 W. Elm Street in Lamar on report of a fence on fire but were advised that bystanders had extinguished the fire. Fire personnel responded to the non-emergency and found that the wooden privacy fence and a tree on the property had been burned for an area of approximately 8 inches continuing up the entire height of the fence. All flames had been extinguished. The heat source for ignition was not found and a bystander stated to Lamar Police that a “kid” was in the area and bent down smoking a cigarette and were seen walking away still holding the cigarette. The cause of ignition is thought to be intentional. The occupants of the residence were not home at the time of the incident.
