4-H Camp Coming to Southeastern Colorado

Southeast Area – 4-H members in Southeastern Colorado need to gather their friends and head out to Kim, Colorado for the Caballeros and Clovers 4-H Camp, where they will be able to hang out by the campfire and listen to the coyotes howl. The Southeast Area Extension, along with the Las Animas County Extension Office, is excited to offer this new and exciting opportunity for area 4-H members.
Caballeros and Clovers 4-H Camp is scheduled for June 12th and 13th at the Kim Equine and Educational Center. The camp is open to all regular 4-H members between the ages of 8 and 13 (by December 31, 2012). The cost to attend is $25, which includes meals and workshop materials, and that must be returned with registration materials by May 16th.
The idea behind the camp is to educate youth about the western lifestyle and the ethics found in the everyday life of the cowboy. James P. Owens has developed a book titled “Code of the West” to educate all ages about applying cowboy ethics to everyday situations. The book contains ten principles that youth can apply to their daily lives, and teach the principles to others. This book is the basis of what will go on during the camp.
One goal of the camp is to help campers learn the skills necessary for completing a variety of 4-H projects, by participating in workshops. The workshop topics will include Archery, Leathercraft, Outdoor Adventures, Photography, Foods and Nutrition, Decorate Your Duds, and STEM activities. The workshops will be led by area Extension Agents and 4-H leaders. Youth will also participate in activities reinforcing the principles from the Code of the West. This will include a pony express race and more fun games.
