Sign Ups Underway for Lamar Police Citizens Academy

Do you want to ride along with a police officer or spend a shift with the ambulance crew? How about participating in a simulated Shoot Don’t Shoot training session, or taking part in a high angle operation with the fire department? Maybe you just want to learn more about public safety in our community.

The Lamar Police Department is accepting applications to attend the Public Safety Citizens Academy which will start May 2nd, 2013. This academy will include sessions devoted to Fire and Emergency Medical Services as well as the Police classes that have been presented in the past. Once again, the Academy will start on May 2nd.

The academy presentations will give the participants a general understanding of the services provided by police, fire, and emergency medical services. The academy will run for 14 weeks. Normally the sessions will run from 7 pm to 9 pm on Thursday evenings. The academy will end on a Saturday with a live fire exercise at the police range, a BBQ, and a high angle operation presented by the Fire Department.

Applications are available now, and will be accepted until April 29th, 2013.

If you would like to attend the second session of the 2013 Citizens’ Academy, please come by the Police Department at 505 S. Main Street and pick up an application. If you have any questions, please call the police department at 719-336-4341 or ask a Lamar Police Officer.
