LCC Congratulates 2013 Rising Stars

(Lamar, Colorado; April 11, 2013) On Tuesday, April 9th the Colorado Community College System held its 2013 Rising Star Recognition Ceremony and Honorary Luncheon at Front Range Community College. This annual awards ceremony recognizes outstanding students from all 13 colleges within the System.

Every system college recognizes two students for the award. Lamar Community College was proud to recognize Ratna Malkan and Kristina Morben as its 2013 Rising Stars.

Ratna Malkan is currently a full-time student completing her Associate of Science degree. She is actively involved with LCC’s Phi Theta Kappa chapter in which she is the reporter/historian. Malkan holds two work study positions with the Academic/Student Services and the Biology departments. When she isn’t busy with school, work or other extra-curricular groups, Ratna enjoys playing soccer, reading, as well as traveling. She plans to transfer to the University of Colorado Colorado Springs, to continue her goal to become a doctor.

Kristina Morben is a model student-athlete and has thrived at balancing her studies with her responsibilities on the LCC softball team. She is also a work study for Student Life, as the activities planner. Last semester, Kristina organized more than twelve student activities. Morben has also worked in conjunction with the Lamar community to better integrate the school and community. When Kristina is not busy with these activities, she is usually working for her father’s construction business to help pay for school. Kristina is currently working on her Associate of Science degree and plans to transfer to Colorado State University in Fort Collins.
