CSP, Multi-Department Police Pursuit Nabs Four Suspects

On Monday, April 22, 2013 at approximately 1900 hours, officers from the Rocky Ford Police Department located a suspect vehicle involved in a 1st Degree Criminal Trespass incident.  When the officers attempted to stop the vehicle, it refused to stop and a pursuit ensued, reaching speeds of over 100 mph.   

Rocky Ford Police Department pursued the vehicle west on Colorado 50 from Rocky Ford.  Officers from the Fowler Police Department deployed a Stop Stick®, a tire deflating device, puncturing a tire from the fleeing vehicle.   

The Colorado State Patrol joined the pursuit just west of Fowler.  The driver continued to flee with a flat tire, while passengers were throwing items out of the vehicle.  Approximately 20 miles west of Fowler, a Trooper utilized a Tactical Vehicle Intervention (TVI) which brought the pursuit to an end.   

The driver and three passengers were taken into custody without further incident.  No Troopers or Officers were injured and the CSP vehicle sustained minimal damage from the TVI maneuver.   

Agencies involved in the pursuit were:  Colorado State Patrol, Rocky Ford Police Department, Fowler Police Department, and Manzanola Police Department. 

The driver, Shannon Medina (a 25 year old male from Pueblo), was charged with Vehicular Eluding, Reckless Endangerment, 1st Degree Criminal Trespass (Complicity), and numerous other charges.  He was booked into the Otero County Jail on the charges.   

A passenger, Reyes Martinez (a 39 year old male from Pueblo), was booked into the Otero County Jail on charges of:  1st Degree Criminal Trespass, Unauthorized Use of a Financial Transaction Device, and Theft.  He was also booked into the jail on two warrants for his arrest. 

Another passenger, Jennifer Ritter (37 year old female from Beulah), was booked into the Otero County Jail on the charge of:  1st Degree Criminal Trespass (complicity).  She was also booked into the jail on a warrant for her arrest. 

Another passenger, Angela Kittinger (30 year old female from Pueblo), was booked into the Otero County Jail on charges of: 1st Degree Criminal Trespass (complicity), and Unlawful Use of a Financial Transaction Device.  An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
