On Saturday April 13, 2013, 35 members of the Bent’s Fort Chapter (BFC) of the Santa Fe Trail Association met at Boggsville Historic Site in Las Animas for a work day to help get the site ready for the 2013 season. Members raked leaves, cleaned windows, dusted, and spruced the place up.
Lunch was provided by Pat Palmer and Shirley Pampus of Lamar. Ham & beans and cornbread were prepared in Dutch Ovens. BFC members contributed salads and des-serts.
Working at Boggsville in April has become a tradition for the BFC. Site Administrator Richard Carrillo is a past president of BFC and remains an active member of the chapter leading tours and giving presentations.
The Bent’s Fort Chapter is a group of over 130 persons from Colorado who are committed to preserving, pro-tecting, and promoting the historical legacy of the Santa Fe Trail. The Chapter meets monthly for tours or presentations. For further information, check out their Facebook page.
