Two Car Fatal Crash on High 287 in Baca County

The Colorado State Patrol is currently investigating a two vehicle crash involving one fatality that occurred on Colorado 287, about 13 miles south of Springfield. At approximately 12:30AM on Friday, 03-22-13, a 2004 Dodge Sprinter Van was northbound on Colorado 287 when it collided with a southbound 2005 Freightliner tractor and trailer driven by Rupinder Singh, age 33, of Arlington, Texas.
The driver of the Dodge Sprinter was pronounced deceased by the Baca County Coroner at the scene of the crash. His identity is being withheld until the next of kin has been notified. Singh sustained minor injuries and was transported to Southeast Colorado Hospital in Springfield for treatment. Seatbelts were in use by both drivers. Colorado 287 was closed for approximately seven hours and traffic was re-routed around the crash scene.
Alcohol and excessive speed are not considered factors in the crash. Asleep while driving is being considered as a factor. The crash remains under investigation.
