Lamar Community College hosts College Goal Sunday

College Goal Sunday is a statewide event that assists students in filling out their Free Application for Federal Student Aid, more commonly known as the FAFSA.  While, College Goal Sunday has occurred in previous years, this is the first year Lamar Community College has been a host site for the event.  The event was free for any student, regardless of where they plan on attending college in the fall.  Students were able to receive expert assistance in the FAFSA application when they walked in the doors.

College Goal Sunday was held in the Betz Technology Building on the Lamar Community College campus on Sunday, February 10, 2013 from 1-3 pm.  Overall there were 36 guests that attended the event with 16 students that filled out FAFSAs for the 2013-2014 school year.  Students from LCC, La Junta, Lamar High School, Granada High School, Wiley High School, McClave High School and even one student from Colorado Springs were in attendance.  In addition to receiving expert help in filling out their Financial Aid Applications, there was a scholarship drawing for four $250 scholarships that can be used towards tuition, fees or books at LCC in the Fall.  Winners of the scholarship drawing were James Sorrell of LCC, Monica Gaitonde of Lamar High School, Kolleen Camacho of Granada High School and Heidi Carty of La Junta.

Overall, the event was a huge success for Southeastern Colorado. We look forward to making College Goal Sunday even better in 2014. For more information on the event please contact Laurie Larrick at 719.336.1573 or aid@lamarcc.edu.
