Funeral services for longtime Holly, CO resident, Darrel Seufer, will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at the First Christian Church in Holly, Colorado. Rev. Kurtis Klinghammer and Rev. Mike Lewis will co-officiate. Burial will follow in the Holly Cemetery with Military Committal Rites by the Holly VFW Post #4281. Visitation will be at Valley Memorial Funeral Chapel in Holly from 1-7 p.m. on Tuesday, February 5, 2013.
Darrell D. Seufer passed away on February 1, 2013 at the Holly Nursing Care Center in Holly, CO at the age of 90. He was born, along with his twin brother, Jewell, to Fred and Lelia (Fowler) Seufer on July 8, 1922 in Holly, Colorado. Darrell and Jewell were born in the middle of a storm that blew out the front window of their grandparents’ home. Darrell served in the U.S. Navy Construction Battalion (Seabees). He also boxed during his time in the Navy.
Darrell was united in marriage to Lorene Nazarenus in 1942, to this union was born a son, Tommy.
On November 27, 1947 Mary Lou and Darrell were united in marriage at Raton, NM. Following their marriage, Mary Lou and Darrell returned home to Holly and started their life together with Mary Lou’s daughter, Jamie and Darrell’s son, Tommy. Additional members to the family include daughter Peggy on November 1, 1948 and Becky on July 17, 1955, as well as a stillborn son, Kim Dean on May 24, 1951.
He served on the Amity Board, Buffalo Water Ditch Board, two terms on the Holly School Board, and was a Prowers County Commissioner for 16 years. Darrell’s first love was fast horses and his win pictures. He had a passion for farming and loved his cattle. He loved his family dearly, especially his grandchildren.
Darrell was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary Lou Seufer; son, Kim Seufer; son-in-law, Ted Dinkler; twin brother, Jewell Seufer; sisters-in-law, Pat Seufer, Cleta Adams, Helen Seglar; and brother-in-law Elmo Adams.
He is survived by daughters, Jamie Dinkler of Las Vegas, Peggy Kalma and husband Jim of Holly, CO, Becky Maune and husband Matt of Syracuse, KS; son, Tom Seufer and wife Bonnie of Canon City, CO; brother, Jerry Seufer of Dallas, TX; sisters-in-law Dorothy Seufer of Holly, CO, and Donna Crist and husband Dale of Fredrick, CO; 13 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, other family and a host of friends.
