Scott Crampton Receives High Honors

(Lamar, Colorado; January 24, 2013) Lamar Community College is proud to announce that head baseball coach, Scott Crampton, was inducted into the Colorado Dugout Club Hall of Fame on January 18, 2013. Coach Crampton was one of ten inductees chosen from 125 nominees for the class of 2013.

The Colorado Dugout Club, formerly the Colorado High School Baseball Coaches Association, established its Hall of Fame in 2010. The association honors coaches from across the state that have “set themselves apart, made a difference, passed the test of time and left an indelible mark.” The Club’s event program explains inductees’ “contributions and influence created legacies along the way that impacted those throughout the state, region, nation and internationally.”

In his nineteenth season at LCC, Coach Crampton has forever made his mark on the community of Lamar and the state of Colorado. He has amassed a record of 787-331 with 18 winning seasons. Crampton has coached his teams to 11 Empire Conference championships, nine Region IX titles and made an appearance in the National Junior College Baseball World Series in 2002, finishing third.

Crampton has distinguished himself in is his ability to produce great players who have the ability to move on to the next level. Since Crampton took the position he has honored 21 Academic All-Americans and 18 All-Americans. The Runnin’ Lopes sent 157 sophomores to four-year institutions and had 28 players drafted professionally. One alumnus, Brandon McCarthy, is currently in the Major League. McCarthy recently signed to pitch for the Arizona Diamondbacks as a free agent.

The Runnin’ Lopes begin the season ranked 16th in the nation according to Collegiate Baseball’s preseason poll. LCC is scheduled to host its first spring series against the University of Colorado Club team on Saturday, February 2nd at 1:00 p.m. at Merchants Field.
