Lamar Police Recover Stolen Laptop and Stolen Car

MEDIA RELEASE

On Monday, 01/21/13, at approximately 11:18 am, Officers from the Lamar Police Department were dispatched to the Wal-Mart Store in Lamar on the report of a stolen lap top computer.  Officers were able to obtain a video of the theft from Wal-Mart surveillance cameras.

Later that afternoon the PD was contacted by the Derby, Kansas Police Department in reference to a stolen motor vehicle from Derby which they had reason to believe was currently in Lamar.  Lamar Officers located the vehicle in the parking lot of the Check Inn Motel.  Witnesses at the motel associated Tereze Thomas, age 25 of Augusta, Kansas and Robert Rhodes, age 38 of Douglas, Kansas with the stolen vehicle.

Upon contacting Robert Rhodes, Officers identified him as the person on the video who had stolen the lap top at Wal-Mart.   Thomas and Rhodes were arrested for the theft of the lap top and transported to the Prowers County Jail where they are being held on $750 bond each.

The stolen vehicle was recovered and a search warrant was obtained for the vehicle.  Several items were recovered which indicated other crimes may have been committed by the couple.  Additional charges are expected as the investigation progresses.
