Target Shooting during last year’s Police Academy

Want to ride along with a police officer or spend a shift with the ambulance crew?  Maybe you just want to learn more about public safety in our community.

The Lamar Police Department is accepting applications to attend the Public Safety Citizens Academy which will start in January 2013.  This academy will include sessions devoted to Fire and Emergency Medical Services as well as the traditional Police classes that have been presented in the past.  The Academy will start on January 17th, 2013.

The academy presentations will give the participants a general understanding of the services provided by police, fire, and emergency medical services.  The academy will run for 14 weeks.  Normally the sessions will run from 7 pm to 9 pm on Thursday evenings.  There will be one Wednesday session and the academy will end on a Saturday with a live fire exercise at the police range, a BBQ, and a high angle operation presented by the Fire Department.

Applications are available now, and will be accepted until January 10th, 2013.

If you would like to attend the 2013 Citizens’ Academy, please come by the Police Department at 505 S. Main Street and pick up an application.  If you have any questions, please call the police department at 719-336-4341.
