In 1972 long time successful business partners and friends Lupe and Julie Adame and Jack and Barbara Baker decided to take another risk and ventured out into the retail business and purchased a liquor store located on the ground level floor of the historic Alamo Hotel and named it A & B Liquor. Between A & B Body Shop and A & B Liquor the partners put in a lot of long hours. They built a business around offering good customer service and soon outgrew the small space at the Alamo Hotel and decided to expand their liquor business. They hired long time resident and Architect, Don Currell to design a new and bigger building to accommodate their expanding business. The building located at 804 East Olive was completed in 1973 and the partners were soon moving in on Mother’s Day of that year.
Sadly after several years, Jack Baker due to illness, had to leave the business and the partnership was dissolved. The business came to be entirely owned by Lupe and Julie Adame. 10 years later the building became too small to handle the needs of their customers so they expanded the building so they could keep a larger inventory on site and provide a larger variety of wine and beer.
A & B Liquor has been a successful business and will be 41 years old in January 2013. Lupe and Julie know they owe that success to their many loyal customers. They pride themselves as hardworking and honest business owners and appreciate the years of support they have received from this community and surrounding areas. They believe that customer service is the key to success and go out of their way to provide that customer service they have come to be known for. One of the things that Lupe and Julie appreciate the most is the many customers and business contacts that have developed into lifelong friendships.
Because of the success of A & B, it has afforded Lupe and Julie many opportunities to give back to the community. Over the years they have extended support to many local organizations. They have a real stake in this community and feel it is important to give back for the many years of support and loyalty they have received.
A & B Liquor has a large variety of wine, beer and popular brand name liquor and liqueurs. If they don’t have what you are looking for, all you need to do is give them the opportunity to find and stock it for you. They like the challenges the liquor business has to offer and one of them is to offer the latest wines, beers, liquor and liqueurs available. The beer is always cold and they have a good supply of bagged ice. If you are planning a party and need help with selections of wines or liqueurs they will gladly assist you. You can call ahead at 719-336-5861 and they will have your order ready for you upon your arrival.
Their daughter, Rose Ann Yates has taken a more active role in the business and works in the store on a weekly basis along with Harry Foley, Rose Hernandez, Dora Adame and Larry Turley.
