Benjamin Franco…January 10, 1935 – October 30, 2012

 

A Memorial Mass for former lifelong resident and Lamar Chief of Police, Benjamin Franco will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, November 30, 2012 at St. Francis de Sales/Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with Reverend Charlie Sena as celebrant. A Rosary Service will be held prior to the Mass at 9:30 with Deacon Henry Wertin reciting. A Rite of Committal with full Military Honors under the auspices of the Lamar VFW Post #3621 and American Legion Post #71 will be held in the Veteran’s Section of Fairmount Cemetery. 

Ben, as he was affectionately known by his family and friends, was born on January 10, 1935 in Lamar, Colorado to Alvaro A. and Catalina (Melgosa) Franco and passed away on October 30, 2012 at the age of 77 in Mobile, Alabama where he has lived for the past year. 

Ben was preceded in death by his daughter, Janice Franco Howell, of Lamar, CO, his parents of Lamar, CO, brother, David Franco of Pratt, KS, Andrew Franco of Parachute, CO and Silvey Franco of Canon City, CO.   

He is survived by this wife, Inez Franco, of Mobile, AL, daughters Gina Germany (Richard Perry) of Mobile, AL, Anna Bockhorn of Mobile, AL, eight grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, brothers; Louis (Cleo) Franco, of Ft. Collins, Co., Daniel Franco (Sandy) Franco of Burr Oak, KS, sisters, Nina (Ray)Velasquez of Ft. Collins, Romana (Rodger) Arithson of Greely, CO, Carmen (Dan) Melgosa of Pueblo West, CO, Berna Pipkin of Brookfield, IL, Leyla Terri (Bryan) Sondburg of Chandler, AZ and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. 

Memorial Contributions may be made to the Ben Franco Memorial Fund in care of the funeral home.
