The Lamar FFA Chapter held their annual FFA Creed speaking contest in the Lamar High School auditorium for all first year agricultural education students this past Wednesday, October 3rd from 4:30-6:00pm.
The objectives of the Lamar FFA Creed Contest are as follows:
- Students will be able to memorize and recite all five paragraphs of the FFA creed
- Present the creed using his/her own interpretation, self-expression and delivery
- Experience speaking in front of a group
- Communicate effectively with others and develop self confidence in speaking before an audience.
The first place winner – Acacia Murdock and 2nd place winner – Matthew Hartshorn will represent Lamar at the District VII Creed Speaking Contest to be held in LHS Auditorium on Wednesday, October 10th at 6:00pm. The 3rd Place winner – Jesse Shelton will serve as the Lamar FFA Chapter alternate for the District event. FFA members receiving “Silver” ratings were: Winter Yant, Zach Kane, Brent Crampton, Makenzie Torres, and Cody Medina. The “Bronze” category consisted of: Devan Fleming, Ari Brandenburg-Lopez, Sidney Stegman, Chance Grasmick, Julie Rider, and Blanca Mendoza.
All of the creed speakers did an outstanding job.
Following the creed speaking contest all members and guests were served at the chili supper the FFA Booster Club.
To wrap up the night the chapter held an entertainment show featuring karaoke and a “You Tube” skit of “Earl Dibbles Jr.” featuring Zach Kane and Brent Crampton. The entertainment provided huge laughs for those in attendance.
The Lamar FFA Chapter would also like to give a big thank you to all of those who helped judge the contest: Coy Mahanay, Brady Rink, Marceleno Dodge and Phil Belmont as well as all the parents and booster members that provided the meal. Thanks also to FFA Alumni member Austin Peck for serving as a prompter and Jerica Hainer for her beautiful rendition of the National Anthem.
