Lamar, Colorado – September 14, 2012 – Lamar Community College observed its 75th birthday on Thursday, September 13, 2012. To begin the day, LCC surprised students, faculty and staff with a 75th birthday cookie as they headed to their first class or arrived at work.
The main event was a student, faculty and staff photo and BBQ that took place during the lunch hour. With the assistance of the Lamar Fire Department an aerial photo was taken of everyone in attendance. Coinciding with the photo a balloon release took place in honor of the 75 years of operation.
During the BBQ, LCC President John Marrin, SGA president Yolanda Herrera, and alumnus/KLMR News Director Ryan Pelton addressed those in attendance. The event was a success as the students and staff enjoyed their meal catered by Sodexho and Schwan’s ice cream.
Lamar Community College would like to thank Ryan Pelton, Marshall Cook and the Lamar Fire Department, City of Lamar Parks & Recreation, KLMR, KVAY, Lamar Ledger, LCC Buildings & Grounds, LCC Student Government Association, Phillip Cordova for providing sound equipment, Pepsi Company and Schwan’s.
Within its 75 years of operation, LCC has grown to offer 39 degrees and 23 certificates of study for hundreds of students annually. In honor of the 75th anniversary, Lamar Community College will host multiple events throughout the year, including a homecoming in conjunction with graduation activities this spring. Alumni may register for event notifications at www.lamarcc.edu/alumni or by contacting Anne-Marie Crampton at 719.336.1520 or foundation@lamarcc.edu.
