Santa Fe Trail Cookers Feed Babe Ruth Tournament Teams

Young athletes need all the calories they can get. Baseball players and their families in the 14 Year Old Babe Ruth Mid West Plains Regional in Lamar were treated to a traditional southwest dinner this past Friday at Willow Creek Park. Several Dutch Oven cookers had their wood and charcoal grills fired up to provide a sampling of sloppy joes sandwiches, roasted potatoes, green beans with ham and bacon and a table full of pies, brownies and cobbler. All the meals were cooked Dutch Oven style, simmered or baked foods that had been cooking over an open fire or coals in cast iron pots.
While it may have been a new version of an outdoor BBQ for the visiting youngsters, none seemed to mind as the long line of ball players made short work of all the food that was provided for them, prior to the games in Lamar.
