Midwest Plains 8, Ohio Valley 7
After seven lead changes in Saturday’s game at Fenway Park, Midwest Plains (Lamar, Colo.) finally pulled out an 8-7 win over Ohio Valley (Mattoon, Ill.). Midwest Plains finally managed to grab the lead after an RBI single by Andres Guevara in the sixth inning. Midwest Plains came out swinging, scoring three runs in the first inning to jump ahead of Ohio Valley early in the game. Lucas Salazar racked up four RBIs on three hits for Midwest Plains. Ohio Valley managed just one hit off of Midwest pitcher Colton Eberhardt, who allowed no earned runs, walked three and struck out three during his three innings of work.
“We struggled a little bit with the nerves having 3 errors in the first inning,” said Brian Kane, manager for the Midwest Plains team. “But we came back and hit the ball well, especially at the end when we needed it. I’m really proud of these kids. For our next game, we want to settle down earlier in the game. We hit the ball okay early, but defensively we didn’t quite look comfortable. Hopefully, after getting the first game out of the way, we can settle in and play a little better defensively next time.”
The Lamar All Star schedule has them playing their next round Monday, August 13 at 11am MDT in National Division, Pool Play.
