Press Release
On Friday, August 31, 2012 at approximately 10:30 A.M., officers from the Lamar Police Department responded to 109 East Hickory Street to serve an arrest warrant for Ricky Don Harris. The warrant was for four felony counts and four misdemeanor counts. Mr. Harris was taken into custody without incident.
Three large dogs were inside the building where Mr. Harris was contacted and nobody else was in the building. Lamar Animal Control responded in order to take the animals to the shelter to ensure the animals would be cared for until Mr. Harris was able to take care of the animals.
While attempting to capture the animals, one of the dogs turned on officers. An officer shot the animal to protect himself and the other officers on scene from being attacked. The animal was taken to a local veterinary clinic to be cared for. The dog was given a shot of penicillin and released back to the animal control officer. The animal control officer was advised there was nothing vital struck by the bullet and the dog was in no danger.
