August Ice Cream Social is Aways a Hit

Summer Sun and Ice Cream Fun

Thirty-seven gallons of homemade ice cream was scooped, spooned, syruped, slurped, spilled and devoured during the annual ice cream social at Willow Creek Park on Thursday, August 2.

Sponsored by the Lamar Parks & Recreation Department and the Lamar Chamber of Commerce, the ice cream makers got an early start on Wednesday morning to produce the annual free treat for area residents.

The event appeared earlier on the August calendar this year.  Dorothy Comer from the Parks and Recreation Department explained that Lamar schools would have been in session if they stuck to last year’s schedule, and not as many people would have been able to come out.

The pool parking lot was filled as free swimming started at 7pm while the weather held out.  In the meantime, as long as the 37 gallons of ice cream held out, there appeared to be no limit to the number of trips folks could make for another helping of the traditional summertime treat.
