Lamar Public Library Celebrates BTOP Anniversary

Lamar Public Library

It has been one year since Lamar Public Library was awarded monies for the Broadband Technology Opportunity Program (BTOP) Federal grant. The grant included $27,900 for the Library to purchase 17 laptop computers and 12 folding desks, scanner, printer, 2 Mobi whiteboards, 2 presentation clickers, 1 IPad, 2 mobile air cards for Internet access outside the library, and an ADA computer station. With the monies from the BTOP Federal grant the Lamar Public Library has been able to create a wireless environment in the library facility and for the first time ever, the library is able to offer a “Mobile Computer Lab”. 17 laptop computers are available for the use of the  Colorado Workforce Center clients, the Lamar Chamber of Commerce, businesses and other local area partners for training during hours of normal operation.

The library has entered new partnerships that will ensure that computer classes can be offered wherever they are needed to the citizens of Prowers County. Lamar Public Library is very pleased to announce that since the grant was received in June of 2011, 568 people have had the opportunity to utilize the new equipment and training opportunities. The library hopes to serve 1000 people by this time next year.
