Caring Comedians Come Out for Comedy Night at Lamar Eagles Lodge

A night of stand up comedy will be on the menu, Saturday evening, July 28 at the Lamar Eagles beginning at 6pm.

2 for the Road Entertainment, operated by Adam Vocke and Larry (Moose) Lundstrum from Fort Morgan, CO is supplying the comedic talent, featuring headliner Lori Callahan, with feature Elliot Woolsey  and Adam Vocke.

“I started doing full time comedy about 26 years ago on a dare,” explained comedienne Callahan. “Friends urged to me to send a cassette tape to KOOL 105 and I won $100 in a contest and an appearance at a comedy club, and I’ve been doing comedy ever since,” she continued. Callahan got career reinforcement when she was a contestant and winner of the 1976 Miss United Teenage Colorado pageant. “I forgot to bring my prepared speech and just ad-libbed all my remarks, but that was enough to help me win,” she said.

She describes her brand of humor as topical and observational, similar to Ellen DeGeneres or Louie Anderson and Lewis Black. “I can get a little risqué by way of innuendo, but there’s never any bad profanity,” she added. Callahan is a supporter of the armed forces, having appeared before the troops in the first Gulf conflict and has done appearances for PAC troops and at some regional hospitals in Colorado for service people with PTSD. She’s appeared on Showtime programming and was part of an ensemble group on an ESPN, “Lighter Side of Sport” program that won an Emmy.

The Saturday event is a joint venture between the Lamar Chamber Honkers and the Lamar Eagles Aerie. Proceeds from the Lamar Eagles comedy night will help aid the works of SECCI, Southeast Colorado Cancer Initiative and the newly formed Remember Foundation which assists victims of Alzheimer’s disease and their families. All proceeds are used locally.

Doors open Saturday, July 28 at 6pm for a chicken fried steak sandwich, fries and a drink for only $5 (must purchase a ticket to the show), served by the Eagles. The comedy show begins at 7:30pm and admission is $10. Tickets will be available at the door.
