U.S. Congressional Candidate Shaffer Touring S.E. Colorado

Colorado Senator Brandon Shaffer will be in Lamar, Colorado for a general meet and greet for the public.  Shaffer is a candidate on the Democratic ticket for the 4th U.S. Congressional District in Colorado.  He will oppose incumbent Cory Gardner in November.

Here is the schedule of public events for Senator Shaffer Thursday, July 26 in Lamar:

7:45am to 8:30 am           Breakfast at Hickory House (1115 Main St.)

11:00am to Noon             Senior Center Tour, Speaking & Lunch (407 Olive St.)

2:00 pm to 3:00pm           Meet and Greet at the Perk ( 117 West Elm)

Brandon Shaffer was first elected to the Colorado General Assembly in 2004 and currently represents Senate District 17, which includes Longmont, Erie, Lafayette, and Louisville. In 2009, Brandon was unanimously elected by his peers to serve as the President of the Senate. Before that, he held several leadership positions including Majority Leader, Assistant Majority Leader, and Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee.

One of his most significant successes came in 2009 when he used Colorado Solutions to garner support from both sides of the aisle to make Colorado one of only three states to fix its public employee pension system. A reformed Public Employees’ Retirement Association (PERA) means security for the nearly 475,000 senior citizens and PERA members in Colorado.

Finally, while Washington has been busy arguing about how best NOT to pass a budget, Brandon has either crafted or voted for and helped pass a balanced budget every year since he was elected. Whether the Governor was a Democrat or a Republican, Brandon led the way in finding a budget that works for all of Colorado.

Brandon met his wife, Jessicca, while she was teaching on a Naval Base in Japan. She currently teaches 5th grade. Brandon and Jessicca live with their children, Dylan age 10, and Madison age 8, in Longmont, Colorado.
