Local Law Agency’s Joint Message Re: Fireworks/Fire Ban

2011 Display at Prowers County Fairgrounds

June 22, 2012

The Law Enforcement agencies in Prowers County want to remind everyone that Governor Hickenlooper’s Executive Order “Ban on Open Burning in the State of Colorado” issued on June 14, 2012 bans the use of personal fireworks anywhere in Colorado including Prowers County and the City and Towns of Lamar, Granada, Holly, Wiley, Bristol and Hartman. The ban of fireworks will be strictly enforced by all law enforcement in Prowers County.

We are asking citizens to refrain from buying or setting off any fireworks. The weather forecast for the next 10 days calls for temperatures in the high 90’s and low to mid 100’s with less than 20% chance of rain. These conditions will increase the fire danger. Our community is relying on everyone to make this a safe and fire free 4th of July.

There will be a public fireworks display in Granada on July 3rd and a public display in Lamar on July 4th. Thank you for your help in making this a safe 4th of July.
