LCC CELEBRATES GRADUATES’ SUCCESSES
(Lamar, Colorado, May 2, 2012)
In a concerted effort to recognize the accomplishments of our December 2011 graduates and Spring & Summer 2012 candidates for graduation, Lamar Community College will hold a Commencement Celebration in our students’ honor on Monday, May 14 at 10:00 a in the Wellness Center.
LCC administration made the difficult decision to cancel last week’s graduation activities, including Antelope Night, Commencement and Nursing Pinning, during the power outage due to a significant concern for the safety of students, guests, faculty, and staff. While electric crews worked non-stop to restore service to most of Lamar and surrounding areas by Friday evening, the uncertainty of assuring adequate food, lodging, and fuel for hundreds of incoming visitors was disheartening.
While LCC’s residence halls and most buildings remained open during business hours during the outage, LCC students completed their finals scheduled for Friday without the aid of electricity. LCC provided additional security to residence hall students and the campus after power went off on Friday morning. After power was restored, staff discovered moderate technology and facility issues caused by the outage. They have worked to restore operations fully.
LCC’s Commencement Celebration will be a modified ceremony to include processional, conferring, certification and presentation of degrees to graduates present, as well as student and keynote speeches. John Stulp has agreed to continue as the college’s commencement speaker. Graduates should wear their caps & gowns, arriving by 9:15 a.m., and are encouraged to bring family and friends to the event. Originally to be announced at Antelope Night, the College will also honor its selection for the 2012 Alumnus of the Year at the event.
A short reception with refreshments will follow the event. For additional information regarding the commencement celebration, contact LCC Student Services at 719.336.1590.
