On Wednesday, May 09, 2012 at approximately 11:00 pm, officers from the Lamar Police Department responded to the 300 block of West Beech Street for a suspicious female subject who was later identified as Casandra Bastian, 28 years of age. The officers contacted the subject who appeared to be under the influence of alcohol and controlled substances.
Bastian attempted to flee the scene after providing the officers with fictitious identification. Bastian threatened to assault officers if they attempted to detain or arrest her. Bastian became combative with the officers and during the initial altercation an officer was injured when Bastian grabbed and pulled on the officer’s genitals. Bastian was restrained and while attempting to place her in a patrol vehicle she bit the same injured officer on the leg.
Bastian was transported to Prowers County Jail where she is being held on a $50,000 cash only bond for multiple second degree assault charges, attempted second degree assault, false reporting to authorities, violation of a restraining order, and disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.
The officer was transported to a local hospital where he was treated and released.
