Southeast Area—Seven District VI 4-H members attended the annual South Central District (SCD) 4-H Retreat held in Nathrop, Colo. March 16-18.  4-H members Tiana and Mitch Garcia, Rachelle Siefkas, Bent County; Rod Hall, Crowley County, Chase Holden and Ty Witt, Prowers County; and Rhett Larsen, Otero County represented the district.  The SCD covers the Southeast Area, San Luis Valley, Chaffee, Custer, Elbert, El Paso, Huerfano, Lake, Las Animas, Lincoln, Park, Pueblo and Teller Counties.

“SCD Retreat is a great weekend with senior 4-H members from across the Southern Region.  This year the members went through four different workshops learning leadership, team building, Scottish words and foods, robotics, how to dance and they completed a community service with the Ronald McDonald house,” Lacey Mann, 4-H agent said.  “We were also very excited to see Tiana Garcia elected as the SCD Secretary, she will be an excellent team member and will bring strong experience and leadership to the new officer team. She began her term March 18 and will help plan the 2012 Dare to Be You and 2013 SCD Retreat.”

Members also had a fierce minute to win it competition series consisting of five obstacles using teamwork and problem solving skills.  The four groups fought until the end and only one team came out on top with a prize as well as bragging rights going into the 2013 year.  The retreat concluded with a presentation from Colorado International 4-H Youth Exchange representative, Kayla Gray.  Gray lived in Scotland for three months and in Greece for three months.  She lived with host families in Scotland and taught at the American school in Greece.
