LHS DECA Club Attends State DECA Leadership Conference

The Lamar High School DECA Club traveled to the Broadmoor Hotel in Colorado Springs for the State DECA Leadership Conference held Feb. 26-28, 2012. Thirty six students attended the conference which included the opening ceremony, competitions, workshops, dance and closing ceremony. Students competed in individual events, team events and promotional campaign events. Students advanced to the State Competition by placing at District Competition or by writing an eleven page promotional campaign. Each event includes a 100 question test and a roleplay or campaign presentation presented to a judge. The conference is attended by 3,000 High School students from Colorado. Jordan Schwartz received a medal for top written performer in Retail Merchandising, and Gabe Beard received a medal for top performer in Automotive Services. Nolan Anderson competed in the finals for Quick Serve Restaurant and Emily Pritchett competed in the finals for Principles of Marketing. Susie Lira, Colorado DECA President, announced her candidacy for National DECA President at the opening ceremony.

Six DECA students will travel to the International Career Development Conference in Salt Lake City, Utah from April 27-May2, 2012. Susie Lira and her team will run a campaign booth for the office of National DECA President. The conference will end with the announcement of the 2012-2013 National DECA Officers.
