Prowers County Sheriff’s Report-January 2012

The Prowers County Sheriff’s office responded to 348 calls for Service in January, of which 201 were for Lamar, eight for Holly, seventeen for Wiley and 91 for the county.    Sixty of the Lamar calls were jail related and 32 were for warrant arrests; three were drug related and two were DUI calls.  Wiley tallied three warrant arrests, one traffic accident, two civil disputes and one animal related issue.  Holly had three civil disputes, one harassment issue, one theft and one traffic accident.  Calls in the county were broken down into five warrant arrests, twenty-two traffic accidents and related problems, two thefts, one MIP, four DUI’s, two drug-related and one domestic violence episode.  Sheriff’s Deputies issued 48 warning tickets, 28 traffic citations and summonses and 10 criminal summonses. 

There were four new cases assigned to deputies, ten cases were cleared in January, recent investigations resulted in 26 charges and there are ten investigations still active in the Sheriff’s department. 

The total number of people booked into the Prowers County jail is up this January compared to last at 129 to 102.  The five year average is 103.  Of the total bookings, 101 were male and 28 female compared to last January at 76 to 26 respectively.  Twelve inmates were reported to I.C.E., Immigrations and Customs Enforcement, in January.  The jail averaged 49 inmates for the month. 

The Prowers County Courthouse averaged 354 visitors for January for a monthly total of 6,720.  Courthouse security made four arrests, based on warrants for individuals were seen entering the courthouse.

Notable incidents from the sheriff’s office for the month included:  The arrest of Lamar resident Jesus Roman Jr., 29, for sexual assault on a minor as a result of information provided by Middle School officials.  He was held on a $1,500 bond; six people were charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia as a result of traffic stops, contacts and citizen complaints; Ivan Nat Kenyon, 25, of Lamar was charged with possession of suspected cocaine prescription drugs after being arrested on outstanding warrants and deputies arrested Tiffany Dawn Garcia, 36, of Lamar for possession of suspected cocaine while being contacted on another matter.  Garcia was transported to the Prowers County Jail and held on a $4,000 bond. 

Medical expenses for inmates for January amounted to $1,068.35 and cost of meals was $10,549.37.  Expenses for January was $171,500.19 and revenue for the month was $3,815.45.
