Fantasy Tree Makes Annual Donation to Domestic Safety Resource Center

Members of the Lamar Fantasy Tree committee donated $7,000 to the Domestic Safety Resource Center this past Thursday, February 2.

Center Executive Director, Lisa Mendenhall, said the funds will be used to help renovate the Resource Center safe house which was purchased several years ago. “We may use the funds to replace some of the windows in the house, but for the time being, the funds will go into our savings account,” she told the committee members.

This marks the eighth year the Fantasy Tree Committee has made a presentation to the Center. The funds come from the annual holiday festivity evening, where donated Christmas trees and wreaths are decorated by various business and civic groups or by citizens. Those trees and wreaths are auctioned and the proceeds are combined with a live and silent auction held the same night. The Fantasy Tree event was held in late November at the Lamar Elks Lodge which featured free refreshments, a variety of entertainment, including karaoke and dancing.
