Business of the Week – The Lassie

The Lassie’s doors have been open at the same location on Main Street since 1948. We are on our way to serving five generations of families in Lamar and Southeast Colorado. Because we have been at our location for so many years, and because our employees are loyal and have been with us for a long time, people often think we cater only to older women. That is not the case. The Lassie carries a complete size range; Junior sizes from 3 to 15; Missy sizes from 6 through 20 and the Plus sizes too, from 16 ½ to 24 ½. We offer everything for our customer other than shoes and fragrances.

Service might be one of the key words why The Lassie has been open for so long. Despite all the changes we have seen come and go; service to our customers has been one of our main objectives. The goal of the store has always been to have a nice selection of fresh, quality merchandise, geared for the lifestyle of our trade area at affordable prices.

We attend fashion markets often to learn about the latest styles, colors and fashion trends for the current season. That doesn’t mean that is what we always buy. We’ve come to know the likes and tastes of our customers pretty well over the years. Bev has often remarked, “Really high fashion has the shelf life of potato salad.”

There are new arrivals at The Lassie every day. This time of year, we are unpacking coats, unique jackets and fun fur vests! We offer many name brands. The Lassie is one of the few stores in the area that carry hats, Betmar hats. When a woman wears a hat, she really makes a statement. We know that you have noticed.

“Casual” is the key word in our lifestyle today, and The Lassie certainly offers that type of classic clothing. There are also the designer jeans such as Ethel and French Dressing, but none with holes in the knees! When it comes time for something for a special occasion or business-like, we carry that too. If the young career girl wants to look smart, she needs to dress smart!

With the holidays approaching, perhaps you will want to shop our pretty new lingerie and robes; something with matching slippers. The Isatoner gloves and slippers make a very welcome gift. They are offered in red, which makes them especially festive. Of course, The Lassie offers a lay-away plan.

So maybe you would not expect to find stuffed toys in a ladies dress shop, but The Lassie has them. Select from two full walls, all breeds of animal families, plus riding stick horses which most grandmas already know about.

Certainly The Lassie has seen many, many changes over all 60 plus years. Lamar being honored as an All American City was a memorable hi-lite. We were so proud! If you call Lamar your home, we encourage you to take pride and support our little town in any way you possibly can.

Being in business for so many years has wonderful rewards. You get to become a part of your customers’ lives and share in their good times, and can offer support when times are less than good. We feel our success for our longevity is as simple as the Golden Rule. “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.”

We know we can’t have every kind of style and size for every kind of person, no one can do that. But we appreciate your taking time to come see what we do have to offer. Pleasing you certainly pleases us.

We would like to thank Robinson Printing, and lately The Prowers Journal for showcasing The Lassie. They are great neighbors to have along Main Street in Lamar.
