Business of the Week – Chez DuVall’s

A unique, cozy little restaurant was an idea I had in the back of my mind for years. I have always enjoyed cooking, planning meals, hosting special occasions, and decorating. I guess when I experienced, the “empty nest syndrome”, I decided to move forward on my dream. So with the support of my husband, John, whose only request was to serve the best quality beef, Chez DuVall’s was created. Deborah Negril, our 1993-94 foreign exchange student from Italy came up with the name for us. Chez meaning, “at the house of” DuVall’s.
Our dining room turned out a little bigger than originally planned, but it made it possible to offer Southeast Colorado Dinner Shows (something we didn’t have in our area). I am always searching for new entertainment, product and ideas. We do specialize in Prime Rib, steaks and seafood on the weekends. Our desserts are homemade with my mom’s (Leah Martin) bread pudding being our signature dessert. Our other top seller is Bill’s (secret recipe) carrot cake. Our cheesecakes are homemade as well as the other desserts we offer randomly.
Bill Burgess was a friend from grade school, who, after we graduated from McClave High School in 1969, spent 30 years in Denver. He was ready to leave the city life and return home to southeast Colorado. He moved back to cook and manage our kitchen. We started our 9th year this past July and we lost Bill in August to leukemia. We’ve had some trying times the past few months, and with your patience and understanding, we are moving forward to getting back to good food, good service and great atmosphere. Joe Lundy worked with Bill a few years ago, and is back doing a great job.
Our atmosphere is unique. I have people tell me it’s like walking into a nice dining room at home instead of a restaurant. We offer two fireplaces, a main dining room that seats 65, two small dining rooms for some intimate dining and a larger room for private meetings which features a television and sofa area.
I’m developing some new shows and events for the upcoming year. Right now, we’re busy getting ready for Thanksgiving and your Christmas parties. I would like you to know that contrary to what you might have heard, if you’ve never been to Chez DuVall’s, we are very reasonably priced while we serve you top quality meals. You don’t have to wear a suit and tie to come in, and you don’t have to have a reservation! We do require reservations for special events and holidays, though. I also want you to know we love having the opportunity to help you with your special occasions, whether they’re for a birthday, anniversary, bereavement dinner, rehearsal dinner, company meetings or sororities. We offer florals, tuxedos and cakes. Specializing in your needs is what we do!
We are your casual, fine dining restaurant in southeast Colorado, offering comfort and candlelight with dinner. We cook with a lot of love and a little butter! We look forward to serving you soon. You’ll find us right on U.S. Highway 50 in Granada. Call us at 719-734-5115.
