The Lamar FFA Chapter had their annual FFA Creed speaking contest again this year at the Lamar High School, in the LHS auditorium. The event took place on the 26th of October. The first place winner was Jake Specht. He will receive a complimentary FFA jacket for his efforts as well as go on to represent Lamar at the Southeast District Creed Speaking Contest to be held in Vilas on December 7. Other FFA members receiving “Gold” ratings were Becky Estes, Lauren Tinnes, Edgar Martinez, Callie Bennet, and Elijah Tamez. The “Silver” category consisted of Sarah Blain, Jericka Melgoza, Holli Pennington, Jamin Tate, Kyle Hicks, Anthony Galindo, and Hayden Nolder. The “Bronze” level consisted of Zach Watson, Sheyenne Spady, Bryson Cowen, Amber Comer, Cody Truitt, Dakota Roberts, Cierra Medina, and Catlynn Townsend. All of the creed speakers did a very good job. Following the creed speaking contest there was a chili supper served by all of the officers and other volunteers. Parents who volunteered put on an excellent supper. To wrap up the night the chapter had an entertainment show. The entertainment was a very good ending to a very good night for the 2011 FFA Creed Speaking Contest. The Lamar FFA Chapter would also like to give a big thank you to all of those who helped judge the contest: Coy Mahanay, Evan Malone, Danielle Wollert, Lacey Mann and Phil Belmont.
