Mayhem II Coming to Lamar this Fall

The Prowers County Lodging Tax Panel approved $5,000 for marketing for Mayhem II, coming to the Lamar Community Building November 5.  Arnulfo Ortega, local organizer, requested funding for the second Professional Mixed Martial Arts competition to be held in Lamar this year.  The first was held during Cinco de Mayo this past May.  The Lamar Community Building was at capacity for the first event, selling 1,495 tickets according to information provided by Ortega.  He told the Lodging Tax Panel that there were a minimum of 40 motel rooms booked for the fighters and boxing commissioners.  Events that drive tourism and overnight stays in Prowers County receive high priority by Panel members when allocating funding requests.  Ortega said those numbers did not include out-of-town spectators, families or coaches and other fighters.

Gerry Jenkins pointed out the Colorado Fight League sponsored $500 to the scholarships:  Crystal Klippert-$250 for LCC, which was matched by the college.  Page Specht-$250 for OJC, which was matched by that college.  Jazreel Mehl-$500 from Voces Unidas.  Thank you for the information.
