Lamar City Tax Revenues Dip in July

City sales tax dropped 2.56% for last month, compared to last year’s tax collections for a difference of $6,970.17. Total sales tax and collections for that month were down 2.17% which translates to a loss against 2010 of $6,204.18.
Year to date figures fared better, still posting gains over 2010, with tax collections up 2.45% for a difference of $41,820.16. Total sales taxes and collections also did well year to date at a 2.89% increase, translating to a gain of $53,091.23 over last year. Total sales tax collections for 2011 are $1,888,276.78.
Of the 12 Retail Trades categories listed for sales tax revenues, only two showed a decrease in year to date numbers, compared to 2010.
Year to Date Sales tax on Building materials was off $4,098.55, and only a very minor drop was noted for Furniture and Appliances, comparing 2010 at $17,132.41 to $17,017.58 for this year. All other categories posed increases including C Stores/Gas Stations; Motels, Manufacturing and especially Grocery Stores which went from $150,913.80 in 2010, to $171,617.76 for 2011. Restaurants also posted about a $4,000 increase over 2010.
