2011 Sand & Sage Fair Sale Award Winners in Livestock

27 4H & FFA members exhibited Breeding Livestock at the Sand & Sage Fair in Lamar on August 10, 2011. Exhibitors paraded Breeding Goats, Breeding Sheep, & Breeding Heifers for judging by Frank Swan of Johnson, KS. Breeding Swine, Breeding Rabbit, and Breeding Poultry projects were also judged. 11 youth brought their best goats in for the competition. Overall Champion Breeding Meat Goat was awarded to Ty Witt. Ty also had the Champion Meat Goat Buck and Doe, as well as Champion Breeding Record Book. Overall Reserve Champion Breeding Meat Goat was awarded to Leandra Melgoza and her young Meat Goat Buck. Makenzie Torres exhibited the Champion Dairy Goat, and Makayla Torres was awarded Reserve Champion for her Dairy Goat doe.
6 exhibitors with sheep of four different breeds were on hand for the judging. Tel Parmely received the award for Overall Champion Breeding Sheep with his yearling ram, as well as Overall Reserve Champion Breeding Sheep with his crossbred yearling ewe.
4 members brought their breeding heifers to the show, where Brady Rink was deemed Overall Champion as well as Overall Reserve Champion Breeding Beef exhibitor.
Breeding Swine are not allowed to be exhibited live at the Sand & Sage Fair, but the Breeding Swine projects were judged on location as well as by interview with project display boards created by the members of this project. 3 youth entered the Breeding Swine competition, with Amber Comer selected as Overall Champion Breeding Swine, and Bailey Comer as Overall Reserve Champion Breeding Swine.
Breeding Poultry Overall Champion was awarded to Skylar Phillips, with Reserve Overall Breeding Poultry going to Maddie Thompson. Overall Champion Breeding Rabbit honors went to Ashlyn Crossland, who also exhibited the Reserve Champion Breeding Record Book. Overall Reserve Champion Breeding Rabbit project was awarded to Skylar Phillips.

Overall Champions received Trophy Belt Buckles. Overall Reserve Champions will receive Custom Embroidered Jackets, and all exhibitors received premium money donated by the sponsors.
Congratulations to all our Breeding Livestock exhibitors. You are to be commended for putting forth the extra effort required to maintain and exhibit your breeding projects! Thanks for making this year’s Breeding Livestock Show a great success!
