Lamar City Sales Tax Shows Increase

Lamar city sales tax revenue increased only a fraction of a percent, 0.28% for April of this year, but saw a 4.82% increase for year-to-date since January.  Total sales and use tax collections for 2011 are $1,355,187.70 compared to $1,292,901.05 for a gain over last year of $62,286.65.

Of the twelve retail sales categories used by the city, two were almost static in a year to date comparison with 2010.  Furniture sales tax for 2010 was $13,210.91 and $13,213.21 for 2011.  Hotels and motels showed little gain as well with $45,833.98 for 2010 and $45,930.63 for this year.  Grocery tax revenue increased over the year, from $107,579.61 to $126,345.22 and restaurants increased for the same period, from $125,397.82 to $131,994.72.
