Lincoln Elementary School in Lamar will not open next school year. As a cost-cutting move, Lincoln students are being sent to Parkview Elementary and Lamar Middle School for the 2011-2012 school year. It’s not known when, or if, Lincoln will re-open.
A tribute to the school, it’s teachers, students and staff will be held from 6pm to 7pm, Wednesday, May 18 at the school. The pubic is invited to attend.
The origins of Lincoln school date back to 1906 when it was first located on North Street, and was built to help with over-crowding of students in the Central School which was constructed in 1900 for K-4th grades. A new Lincoln School was built in 1950 on North 10th from the abandoned Colony School and in 1962, a new classroom was added as well as a room for kindergarten students. Lincoln received a facelift and new additions and electrical system about 5 or 6 years ago.
